I have known Ava since she was born, but have not gotten to hang out with her until this shoot. Her dad, Rick, is very good friends with Joe and we see Rick quite often, but not Ava. Boy have we been missing out! She is awesome!
Ava is graduating from Bellarmine this year and I got to do her senior pictures! Yah!!
She is definitely my kind of girl… speaks what she thinks, fun, adventurous, loving, smart, outgoing and artsy. All that makes what I do come to life as you will see in her images.
I have passed this staircase in downtown Tacoma countless times and was so glad to see it on Ava’s list of places to go. I love that she came with a list.
Her dad owns Guitar Maniacs, a vintage guitar shop in downtown Tacoma, so we had to make a stop there. She is a drummer, so I thought I would do something a little different than just putting her behind a drum kit. (Can you see me?)

There is just something special about this
.
Tacoma is big on the arts, there are places to go where graffiti is allowed and changed often; a small park in the downtown area that has chalk art (pretty amazing and fun to see) and buildings that commission special mural projects. The newest downtown mural was unveiled a few days ago and it made Ava’s list. The colors were vibrant and bold and looked great with her hair scarf and sweater.

The next one reminds me a little of this one, but Ava has a much cuter interpretation!
Don’t you think?
We also found some fun places to use that weren’t on her list
. A FAVORITE!
My seniors come prepared! Most bring half their closet which is great, so I can help chose what to wear and when. Well, Ava is so organized she not only came with her list of specific locations, but also had the matching outfit with each – including hairstyle and jewelry. How amazing is that!?
Next on her list, Opera Alley. I used the same location for Julian, so I made sure we used different walls and angles to give a different feel. I try hard to not duplicate too many locations, even though I do have my favorites that I use a lot!

So cute!
So retro!
Tacoma has AWESOME museums… did you know that they are free every third Thursday of the month? We are heading to the Arts and Crafts exhibit next month since we live in a Craftsman house and love that style. They also have these great staircases.

The dress was for the Thea Foss Waterway.
Fun! I am always trying to capture movement like this. I saw this in my camera and knew I would love it.
We were quickly losing light, but we HAD to hit EVERY place on her list. We just HAD to!
When darkness came, we decided to continue shooting! I’m so glad we did, they turned out to be my FAVORITES!

Stunning colors don’t you think? The light from the school was amazing and I love the grain from the high ISO I had to use to get these shots!

What a fun day. They ALWAYS are and again I got to be with another amazing 2011 senior.
Thanks for stopping by
