Scavenger Hunt #22 – Work

Work… hmmm, my first thought of this one was to capture traffic… since for almost 22 years that is how work both started and ended for me… with lots and lots of traffic. How could I safely take a picture while driving in traffic? I tried, but just didn’t like what I captured and I really didn’t like being in traffic again!

Then I thought I would take a few pictures of my camera gear to represent my work now, but really, that is pretty boring and you see my work all the time on this blog.

Next thought, yard work… Nick and I have been doing yard work as an extra side job for him to earn money over the summer, but I just never got a picture and now we are done with our little adventure (so glad, my back is killing me). He did earn enough to get the few things he wanted though, so mission accomplished!

So, what should I do for work? I decided to look beyond the work that we humans do and look to the creatures around us. The ants, the spiders, the bees… they all work, everyday without a vacation or break. It’s been so windy lately that getting a good bee picture is a challenge and the spider webs are so fine with unimpressive spiders this time of year (fall is a much better time for great spider web pictures)… so ants it is. I remembered a specific ant hill that we stumbled across while doing a recent engagement session, so I headed out to see if I could find it again.

And I did…

Ants are extremely hard working creatures and each has a specific job. I like that they can only exist if they all do their job. It takes a village.

A piece of advice though, if you want to photograph an ant hill don’t wear flip flops and try to get too close! Just trust me on this one!

In photo #3, how did you get just the middle of the shot in focus?

I used an aperture of 2.8 and held the camera down to the ground, since I didn’t want to get bit!
